what i do
Imagination + Experience
Sometimes all that stands between you and the next step of your writing life is a discerning eye. Whether you’ve been working on a novel for a decade or just finished writing the first idea for a story on the back of a grocery store receipt, I’m here to help you see your project with greater clarity and purpose. Because every writer is different, we’ll work together to form an individualized plan, not through some formulaic prescription, but by considering your work and your goals on their own terms. My experience is best suited to literary fiction, but I am open to working with writers of any genre.
Let’s talk about you and your story, and see if we’re a good match.

About Me
For more than two decades, I’ve been teaching creative writing at colleges and universities and community literary centers, and for the past five years, I’ve taught the year-long Novel Writing Project at The Loft Literary Center in Minneapolis. I hold an MFA from the low-residency program at the University of New Orleans, and a PhD from Western Michigan University, where I edited the literary journal Third Coast. I’m an eager and generous teacher, and I take pride in my enthusiastic engagement with other writers. After all, the more stories the world gets to read, the better we all are for it.
As a publishing writer, I’ve worked with small literary presses, large New York publishing houses, and university presses. All of which is to say I understand the many nuances that affect the market, and how writers might best position their work. I’ll be honest and constructive and provide counsel on the professional aspects of this endeavor, not just the artistic ones. Visit petergeye.com to learn more about my writing career.
